Scan your computer for various viruses, spyware, and malware at least once every month to three months. Infections are one of the most causes of slow computer speed and poor performance. Also make sure you use your scanners in safe mode. You can go into safe mode by pressing F8 when booting up your computer and select safe mode option. You can get rid of much more viruses this way since they most likely won't be loading up when your operating system starts up. Remember you can't delete files that are in use.
After you have done everything else the next step is very important. Fix registry errors and clean out junk entires. So many people either never heard of a registry or completely overlook it. It contains data which every program has stored into. Including operating systems. By fixing the registry you will be able to fix most, if not all, system errors as well as increase computer performance.
